[ just like everyone else ]

we are all
bound, gagged, blindfolded
walking the beaten path

tracing circles
across familiar, level ground
until we finally lay down

but some see
something else, the Truth perhaps
out of the corner of their eye

another path
fresh and unsoiled
it must be The Way

new and exciting
winding away, barely touched
leading to God knows where

but i've looked
down that path before, it goes
that's for sure, for awhile

but what you don't see
if you choose not to look
is that it is the same

starting fresh
with the uncertianty of new
but it goes

and eventually
it settles, beaten, regular
bound, gagged, blindfolded

a different path
but a path nonetheless, shaped
by stereotype and conformity

is this the answer?
taking a chance, but ending up
just like everyone else.
